A message from CMPA's CEO

Given the unprecedented overcrowding occurring in pediatric hospitals across the country, you may be asked to practise outside your usual scope. For instance, some pediatricians are being asked to provide emergency and ICU care, while some emergency physicians are being asked to see pediatric patients when that is not their usual practice.

We recognize the immense strain being placed on the healthcare system right now, and I want you to know that the CMPA is there for you. More detailed information is available here, but in exceptional circumstances such as these, you will be eligible for our assistance even if practising outside your scope.

Here are some additional points to keep in mind:

When practising outside of scope, try to ask for help or guidance from those with more expertise when you need it.

You are encouraged to confirm whether your College has established any requirements about practising outside of scope.

Since this is a temporary situation, there is no need to change your CMPA Type of Work code.

Retired physicians who are returning to work to help with this crisis will be provided with TOW code 8.
